The 56-second clip was shared on X, Facebook and Instagram, claiming to show Zakaria speaking during his CNN segment “Fareed’s Take.” In the video, he is heard saying that Pakistan is strategically important for the United States and serves as a bridge between different regions.
However, the clip does not appear to match Zakaria’s natural speaking style. According to Soch Fact Check, the audio sounds robotic and his jaw movement appears stiff, raising concerns that the video was manipulated. The outlet also reported that Hive Moderation rated the clip’s speech as 89.5% likely to be AI-generated.
Further testing through Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector also found the sampled voice to be likely fake. One phrase received an authenticity score of 1 out of 100, while another received 3 out of 100, according to the fact-check report.
Fareed Zakaria himself rejected the viral clip on X, calling it fake and saying it was AI-generated. AFP Fact Check also reported that CNN confirmed the circulating clip was fake and that the segment had not aired on CNN.
The video gained significant attention online, with one viral post on X reportedly receiving more than 225,000 views before the claim was debunked.
