A viral video claims DW reported that PTI supporter Shehr Bano misused funds collected for children’s tiffins. Fact-check shows the video is digitally altered and uses AI-generated audio.

DW Report Accusing PTI Supporter Shehr Bano of Financial Scam Is False

A video circulating on social media claims that German broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) aired a report accusing PTI supporter and activist Shehr Bano of misusing funds collected for children’s tiffins in Sargodha.

The claim is false. The video has been digitally altered. The original footage was published by Voice of America (VOA) in 2016 and was about a school for underprivileged children in Islamabad, not Shehr Bano or any financial scam. The viral clip also appears to use AI-generated audio.

Claim

A 52-second video shared on X alleged that Shehr Bano misused donations collected from Dubai for children’s meals and bought a luxury car worth Rs 50 million.

The video carried DW-style branding, a ticker about a “Dubai funds scam,” and a voiceover accusing Shehr Bano of financial misconduct.

Fact Check

The original visuals in the viral video match a Voice of America report titled “Pakistani School Helps Slum Kids,” published on April 29, 2016.

That report was about Muhammad Ayub, a man running a makeshift school in a public park in Islamabad for underprivileged children. The original VOA report does not mention Shehr Bano, PTI, Sargodha, Dubai donations, children’s tiffin funds, or any luxury car purchase.

The viral video also contains several changes that are not present in the original VOA report, including:

  • DW logo animation
  • Added news tickers
  • A picture of Shehr Bano
  • Different visuals at some timestamps
  • A new voiceover making scam allegations

According to the fact-check details, the audio was tested using Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector, which indicated that the sampled voice was likely AI-generated.

VOA’s Ayesha Tanzeem, who produced the original 2016 report, described the viral clip as “a clear case of disinformation.” DW’s Corporate Communication team also confirmed that the video did not originate from DW and said the graphics and fonts used in the viral clip were incorrect.

Verdict

False.

DW did not publish any report accusing Shehr Bano of misusing funds. The viral video is digitally altered, using old VOA footage with a fake DW-style layout and AI-generated audio.

Conclusion

The claim that DW exposed PTI supporter Shehr Bano in a children’s tiffin funds scam is false. The video being shared online is manipulated and does not represent any real DW report.
