Speaking to the media in Tehran, Baghaei described the overnight operation as a violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and the ceasefire. The spokesman said it was not the first such incident, adding that Iranian security forces had responded with full force, inflicted damage on the enemy and pushed back the aggression.
He said the ceasefire appeared to be holding, but Iran’s armed forces remained fully prepared and were closely monitoring the situation. He warned that action would be taken with full force if required.
When asked whether Iran had responded to the overnight attack, Baghaei said the aggression had been thwarted. He also strongly condemned the United States over attacks on Iranian flag-bearing oil tankers.
Meanwhile, according to Iranian news agency فارس, intermittent clashes continued on Friday in the Strait of Hormuz between Iranian armed forces and US naval vessels.
The US military said it had targeted two more vessels linked to Iran as they attempted to enter an Iranian port. A US fighter aircraft reportedly struck the ships’ funnels and prevented them from entering Iranian territory.
