Speaking to the media, Trump said he would accept such an arrangement if Iran’s commitment proved genuine. Trump claimed Iran previously conducted trade worth 500 million dollars daily through the Strait of Hormuz and said the blockade had disrupted Iranian commerce.
He said the ceasefire decision was taken at the request of other countries. The US president once again praised Pakistan’s Field Marshal and Prime Minister during the media interaction.
Trump also said he would decide within days on lifting restrictions imposed on Chinese companies purchasing Iranian oil.
He said China would buy billions of dollars worth of soybeans from the United States.
Commenting on Taiwan, Trump said he did not believe there was any conflict over the issue and added that he had made no statement regarding Taiwan.
The US president said no approval had yet been granted for weapons for Taiwan, adding that approval may be given or withheld.
“I do not think there will be any war over Taiwan,” Trump said.
