PM Shehbaz decides to appoint Lt Gen Asim Munir as next COAS

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday decided to appoint Lt Gen Asim Munir as the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza has been shortlisted as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).

Federal Minister for Broadcast Marriyum Aurangzeb tweeted, “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to appoint Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Lt Gen Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of the Army Staff by exercising his constitutional authority.”

The names were shortlisted following the special federal cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister Office chaired by the prime minister.
