9 News HD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has pushed back the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026.

This change came after many business groups and tax associations urged the FBR to give taxpayers time. The extension was made under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

The new deadline now applies to those who were supposed to file by September 30. They can now submit their income tax returns by **October 15 2026**.

Before this extension the FBR had warned taxpayers about increased penalties if they missed the September 30 deadline.

Under the updated tax filing rules the " filer" category was set to end on October 1. After that date anyone who does not file on time could be considered a non-filer.

This shift could lead to penalties for individuals and businesses that fail to file their returns. For individuals the penalty could go up from Rs1,000 to much as Rs25,000.

For an Association of Persons (AOP) the fine could rise to Rs50,000. Companies may face penalties of up, to Rs100,000.

The FBR has also reminded all businesses to complete their sales tax and income tax registrations before the deadline.

With the deadline now extended taxpayers should take advantage of the time. They should make sure to finish their returns and send in all required details by October 15 2026.
