Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Introduces Wallhack-Like Weapon Attachment

The game brings in new mechanics like movement options, progression systems, and weapon customization. The new Apex Attachment system also changes how multiplayer matches play out.

The Apex Attachment system takes the usual Gunsmith feature further than just improving recoil or handling. Players unlock Apex Attachments as the last reward for leveling up certain weapons. These upgrades change how guns work without using up a regular attachment slot. Infinity Ward has confirmed there will be 28 Apex Attachments in the full game. These add things like new firing modes, special ammo, and other major abilities.

One of the most notable examples is the ISO Trace Apex Attachment for the ISO Nightshade SMG.

To get this attachment, players need to level the weapon up to 56. After unlocking it, the SMG uses special RFID ammo that marks any opponent you hit.

The weapon’s optics then show exactly where the tagged player is, even if they move behind cover. This lets users see if an enemy stops, runs away, or gets ready to fight again.

There is a trade-off, though: the attachment lowers bullet speed and penetration. Still, this big advantage is meant to be part of the game, not a cheat or exploit.

This attachment is likely to have a big effect in Call of Duty: Warzone. Since players have more health there, they can survive longer and try to escape. Tagging opponents makes it much easier to finish fights, and teammates can use this information too.

However, because the ISO Nightshade works best at close range and has some downsides, it probably won’t be the best choice in every situation. In the end, how useful it is in Warzone will depend on how well players can keep their tags on enemies.

Infinity Ward now faces bigger balancing challenges. Giving players rewards for leveling up weapons makes progression feel important. But if an attachment gives too much exclusive information, it might feel required for competitive play. Other Apex Attachments could cause similar issues if they are much better than regular setups.

It’s ironic that this feature comes out while Activision is working hard to fight real cheating. The company just started another big push with its RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system.

Activision has also taken legal action against cheat makers and sellers. The ISO Trace is different because players have to hit their target first. Still, being able to track players through walls is rare for a series that usually tries to stop this. The current beta gives Infinity Ward a chance to tweak weapon balance before launch.
