9 News HD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has defended the federal government’s decision to impose emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), saying the move was taken under extreme pressure due to the worsening security situation.
He also blamed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for what he described as serious negligence over security in the province.
Speaking at a meeting of the provincial apex committee in Peshawar on Thursday, October 22, PM Shehbaz said the government had to take action because of growing security concerns. The meeting was held to review the law and order situation in KP.
Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, federal ministers and newly appointed provincial advisers also attended the meeting.
The federal government imposed emergency and governor’s rule in KP on October 11. Officials said the decision was necessary because of security threats and a lack of cooperation from the provincial government.
PM Shehbaz said improving security and restoring peace in the province were important priorities. He also expressed hope that the government’s steps would help improve the situation and support development in KP.
The decision has added to political tensions between the federal government and PTI. The party has opposed the move, while the government has defended it on security grounds.
The situation in KP remains a major issue for Pakistan as officials face growing pressure to tackle terrorism and protect the public. Further developments are expected as the government works to improve law and order in the province.
