9 News HD: At least five people were killed and 27 others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a drain in Hafizabad, Punjab, on Thursday. Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene and began helping passengers trapped in the vehicle.
According to rescue officials, the accident took place in the Fatehki area of Pindi Bhattian tehsil, near a flyover. The bus was travelling from Raiwind to Chiniot to attend the Tablighi Ijtema when it went out of control and fell into the drain.
Initial reports from Rescue 1122 suggested that overspeeding may have caused the driver to lose control of the bus. The exact details of the incident were still being investigated.
Rescue workers provided first aid to the injured passengers at the scene before moving them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials said that 27 people were injured in the crash. Thirteen injured passengers were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Pindi Bhattian.
Rescue teams also used a crane, with help from the local administration, to lift the bus and recover the bodies of five victims trapped beneath it. The search operation continued amid concerns that other passengers might still be trapped.
The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the risks of speeding on busy roads. Passenger buses often carry people over long distances, making careful driving and following speed limits especially important.
Further details about the victims and the condition of the injured passengers had not been fully confirmed at the time of reporting. Rescue and local authorities continued their work at the accident site.
