RAWALPINDI: Pakistan were bowled out on 272 runs on day two of the second and final Test match against South Africa at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The Green Caps had resumed that day on 145-3 after the rain had cut short day one. Pakistan’s top order had once again failed after skipper Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bat. The hosts were 22-3 at one stage but Azam and Fawad Alam batted responsibly to rescue the innings.
Pakistan were 145-3 at Tea on day one and the play could not be started after the break as heavy rain lashed Rawalpindi. Babar Azam and Fawad Alam, as a result, ended the day on 77 and 42 runs respectively.
The hosts had struggled against spin in the morning session when slow left-arm orthodox Keshav Maharaj was brought into the attack in ninth over, and lost three wickets.
Maharaj dismissed Imran Butt (15) and Azhar Ali (0) in successive overs. Abid Ali (6) was removed by Anrich Nortje.
The Green Caps retained their winning combination from the first Test. South Africa made one change as Wiaan Mulder replaced Lungi Ngidi. The hosts had defeated the Proteas in the first Test at the National Stadium Karachi (NSK) by 7 wickets.
