LAHORE (9 News) – Finance Minister Asad Umar has resigned from his office as who will replace him remains unanswered.

According to the sources, the consultations are being continued on the four names for the designation of the finance in the Prime Minister’s Office. It was reported that Omar Ayub is expected to name his as the next finance minister.

Reportedly, Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan is the strongest candidate for the Finance Ministry designation; however, the prime minister has summoned Omar Ayub Khan.

Other prominent names which have surfaced for the position of finance adviser include former caretaker finance minister Salman Shah, former finance minister Shaukat Tarin and former State Bank of Pakistan governor Ishrat Hussain.

The sources also said that former finance minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and economist Hafeez Pasha were also in the candidate list for the upcoming finance minister.

Before the meeting, Omar Ayub was asked by journalists if he had been summoned by Prime Minister Khan to be named as the next finance minister. “I am going to the PM Office for a meeting which had been scheduled from before. We have given approval for the load management plan during Ramazan,” Omar Ayub.
