RAWALPINDI - Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Saturday congratulated the nation, government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on holding the general elections 2024 successfully, said military’s media wing.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) quoted the army chief as saying that he congratulated the political parties and all winning candidates.
COAS Munir said democracy and elections were ways to serve the people. The nation needed safe hands and a healing touch to move beyond the politics of chaos and polarisation. Polarisation and anarchy were not suitable for a developing country of 250 million people.
The political leadership and their workers must rise above their personal interests and focus their attention on serving the government and the people, which is the only way to make democracy functional and meaningful.
The Army Chief said the right of the Pakistani people to freely participate in voting was proof of their commitment to democracy.
He said the people of Pakistan had shown their collective confidence in the Constitution of Pakistan, it was now the duty of all political parties to respond with political maturity and unity.
He maintained that constructive role of civil society and members of the judiciary made possible the successful conduct of the largest electoral exercise.
The army chief expressed his desire that these elections should bring political and economic stability and prove to be the center of peace and prosperity for his dear country fellows.
Nation on February 8 exercised its right to vote to elect a new government amid soaring inflation and incidents of violence.
Independent candidates were leading the race for the National Assembly seats, according to the provisional results issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
