Mushtaq Ahmed appointed Bangladesh spin coach for T20 World Cup

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Tuesday the appointment of former Pakistani leg-spinner, Mushtaq Ahmed, as the spin-bowling coach for the national cricket team ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Mushtaq's inclusion comes as a strategic move to bolster Bangladesh's spin department, replacing the esteemed Rangana Herath, who served in the role for two years.

The 53-year-old veteran, renowned for his illustrious career spanning 144 ODIs and 52 Tests, expressed his gratitude, stating, "It is a great honor for me to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach."

Mushtaq, who clinched the 1992 World Cup with Pakistan, brings a wealth of experience, having served as a spin coach for various international teams, including England, West Indies, and most recently, Pakistan.

In his role, Mushtaq aims to impart his knowledge and expertise to the Bangladeshi players, emphasizing their potential to dominate on the international stage. "They can beat anyone because they have the capability, the resources, and the talent. I will try to instill that belief into them," he remarked.

The appointment of Mushtaq Ahmed comes at a crucial juncture for Bangladesh cricket, as they gear up to face Zimbabwe in a five-match T20 series in May before heading to the United States for a showdown against the hosts and the T20 World Cup.
