Sources privy to the matter said that England and Sri Lanka are expected to tour for the series later this year.

The development signals renewed efforts by the PCB to strengthen the national side.

According to sources, England cricket team is ready to travel to Pakistan for a tri-series also featuring Sri Lanka cricket team.

The series is likely to be held in October and November, although exact dates are yet to be finalized. Officials are expected to confirm the schedule in the coming weeks.

Format of the series

The proposed tri-series will consist of four matches. Each team will face the other once in the group stage.

The top two teams on the points table will then qualify for the final, setting up a competitive build-up ahead of major international tournaments.

The initiative is part of broader plans by the Pakistan Cricket Board to prepare the national team for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup.

Pakistan has struggled to deliver consistent results in recent global events, prompting the board to arrange more competitive fixtures at home.

Pakistan’s recent World Cup record

Pakistan has not reached the semi-finals of an ODI World Cup since its defeat to India in the 2011 edition in Mohali.

The team exited in the quarter-finals in 2015 and failed to progress beyond the first round in both the 2019 and 2023 tournaments.

These performances have raised concerns, pushing the PCB to revisit its strategy and strengthen preparations through series like the upcoming tri-nation event.
