Treason Case Against Musharraf Should Be Deferred Over Critical Medical Condition: Ejaz

ISLAMABAD (9 News) – Minister for Interior Ejaz Shah said that in view of former president Musharraf’s critical medical condition, the high treason case against him should be deferred.

In an interview with private TV channel, the interior minister mentioned that that the Musharraf’s latest photo surfacing on social media showed that he’s more sick than anybody else in this country. “High Treason case should be deferred against him till recovery of his health,” he added.

Ejaz Shah explained that many mistakes happened in the high treason case against the former military ruler and no approval was given in the federal cabinet during the Pakistan Muslim League-N’s tenure regarding this case.

Will adopt legal procedure for bringing Nawaz back to home

The minister said that incumbent government will adopt legal procedure for bringing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif back to home if he did not return to Pakistan after completing the period granted by court.

He also maintained that there was a disparity between the medical reports of ailing Nawaz Sharif and his behaviour while departing the country for treatment abroad.

“The public would not have raised questions regarding the PML-N quid’s departure to London if he had left the country like a sick person and if nothing else, boarded the air ambulance on a wheelchair,” the minister said.

Treatment for Zardari

To a question regarding the treatment of Zardari, the interior minister said he should be given the same health services as extended to Nawaz Sharif.

“He should be given the same treatment that Nawaz Sharif has got,” Shah said, adding that he could also be allowed to go abroad for treatment, if so recommended by doctors, based on Nawaz’s precedent.

On the other hand, a larger bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will heard the pleas of former president Pervez Musharraf and the Interior Ministry at 12:30pm on Tuesday (today).

The bench comprising of IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani will hear the pleas seeking stay of the reserved verdict to be announced by the special court.

The government had filed an application in the Islamabad High Court seeking order to stop the verdict in the high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf.
