Islamabad: “We will go to Rawalpindi too; there will be a large protest rally about Kashmir on February 5th ,” head of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Tuesday, reigniting a conversation that had seemingly been put to rest.

“We are talking very cautiously,” he stated.

Talking to the media before PDM’s protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the government cannot stop the opposition alliance from protesting. “I know how much power they have, I have tested them before too,” he said in response to a question, adding that PDM leadership is ready for the protest. He stressed that PDM will remain within its constitutional rights during the protest.

The Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader alleged that the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had received funds from enemy forces. “PTI did not declare secret documents and details of accounts,” he said, wondering why the case is being delayed since six years. “Government is delaying this case,” he remarked.

PTI has been accused by Akbar S. Babar, a founding member of the party, of procuring funds from foreign sources in violation of ECP rules and regulations. The case has been pending before the ECP since nearly six years. PDM will today protest against delays in the case, demanding quick resolution and a fair verdict.

Earlier, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain also talked to the press before the start of the protest. When asked about the absence of Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the information secretary of PDM remarked that his representatives were present there.

Senator Sherry Rehman and former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf are representing PPP at the protest. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is in Umerkot, Sindh, celebrating the party’s resounding victory in PS 52 over GDA’s Arbab Ghulam Rahim.
