Weekly inflation rises by 0.47% driven by increase in petrol prices

According to details surfaced on Friday, an annual inflation reached 14.52%, reflecting the continued impact of higher fuel costs across the country. The weekly inflation report showed that prices of 23 essential items increased over the past week, while only nine items recorded a decline. Prices of 19 items remained stable during the period.
On a weekly basis, tomatoes rose by more than 22%, onions by 3 per cent, and wheat flour by nearly five%. Banana prices increased by almost two%.
Fresh milk, sugar, potatoes and yoghurt were also among the items that became more expensive during the week.
In contrast, chicken prices fell by 6.34%, while eggs became cheaper by 3.83%. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices recorded a decline of 1.23%.
On an annual basis, wheat flour prices surged by more than 57%, while petrol and diesel prices increased by 64% and 61% respectively.
