Lahore: A video circulating on social media allegedly showing rats roaming around patients and hospital beds at Civil Hospital Quetta has raised concern among users online.

However, 9NewsHD Fact Check found the claim to be false. The viral video was not recorded in Quetta or any hospital in Pakistan. The footage is actually from a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India.

What Is the Claim?

A 32-second video was shared on X, Facebook and YouTube with claims that it shows rats moving freely inside Civil Hospital Quetta in Balochistan. In the clip, rats can be seen near hospital beds and medical equipment while patients are present in the ward.

Several social media users criticised hospital conditions in Pakistan and urged authorities to take notice of the situation.

What Is the Truth?

The video does not show Civil Hospital Quetta.

A reverse image search found that the same footage had appeared earlier in Indian media reports in January 2026. The video was identified as being from the orthopedic ward of Government Medical College Gonda in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Indian media outlets reported at the time that rats were seen inside the hospital ward, raising concerns about hygiene and patient safety. Hospital authorities in India reportedly launched an inquiry after the video went viral.

There is no credible evidence linking the footage to Civil Hospital Quetta or any hospital in Pakistan.

Why Is the Claim Misleading?

The video was presented online with a false location. Although the footage is real, it was wrongly linked to Pakistan.

The original incident took place in India, but social media posts used the video to claim that it showed poor conditions at Civil Hospital Quetta. This made the posts misleading and caused confusion among viewers.

9NewsHD Verdict

False / Misleading Location

The viral video of rats in a hospital ward was not filmed at Civil Hospital Quetta. The footage was recorded at Government Medical College Gonda in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Conclusion

Social media users should verify the origin of viral videos before sharing them, especially when they are linked to public institutions or sensitive issues such as healthcare. Old or foreign videos are often shared with false local claims, which can spread misinformation and damage public trust.
