Karachi: A female student lost her life in a tragic accident at the University of Karachi after being struck by a university bus. The incident occurred as she was getting off the bus.

The deceased student was identified as Aneeqa Saeed, daughter of Ahmed Saeed, a student of the BS Social Work Department.

Witnesses reported that Aneeqa was disembarking from the university point when the accident took place. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Following the incident, students at Karachi University held a strong protest, demanding legal action against the driver and improvements to campus transport safety.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Iraqi took notice of the incident and formed an investigation committee comprising the in-charge of NED University’s Transport Department and two students. Dr Naeema Saeed from the Department of Criminology has been appointed as the committee’s convener.

Police stated that the driver of the point bus had been taken into custody, but the victim’s family intervened and secured his release, expressing that they did not wish to pursue any legal action.

According to police sources, the family has also refused to register a case. The driver remains present at the hospital.
