Tomato rates cross Rs500 per kg, adding to kitchen budget woes.

Vegetable prices in Lahore have once again skyrocketed, putting them beyond the reach of the average consumer. Tomatoes, which were selling for Rs. 300 per kilogram just a few days ago, are now being sold at Rs. 500 per kilogram.

In local markets, the cost of vegetables has increased significantly: cabbage has risen from Rs. 120 to Rs. 300 per kilogram, cucumbers from Rs. 80 to Rs. 140, turnips from Rs. 150 to Rs. 300, fenugreek (methi) from Rs. 200 to Rs. 400, and green beans from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 per kilogram. Drumsticks (mongray) are now being sold at Rs. 120 per quarter-kilogram, up from Rs. 80.

According to vendors, a religious group's protest and transportation disruptions have affected the supply chain, leading to the surge in prices.

Citizens argue that the government has failed to control inflation, making even basic vegetables increasingly unaffordable.

Residents are urging the government to take immediate steps to bring down vegetable prices and provide relief to the public.
