ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has denied any attempt to to seek meeting between Chairman Imran Khan with Army Chief Gen Asif Munir.
The denial came in response to a tweet by TV anchorperson Kamran Khan, who claimed that Gen Asim Munir, through President Arif Alvi, had actually sent a message to Khan for meeting PM Shehbaz Sharif. Khan, however, didn’t agree to that, according to the anchorperson.
The anchorperson in his tweet had claimed that instead of accepting Army Chief’s suggestion, Khan had sent message, expressing his desire to meet Gen Asim Munir, to which the Chief of the Army Staff said he wasn’t ready for political interference.
The tweet, however, went viral like a wildfire and triggered a tsunami of speculations, ranging from ‘backdoor contacts with establishment’ to the obvious anti-establishment rhetorics by several quarters.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, senior leader of PTI Fawad Chaudhry said “chairman Imran Khan has never made any request to meet Army chief or any of his representatives likewise President has never approached Chairman PTI with any suggestion of Army Chief for meeting Shahbaz Sharif, speculations in this regard are baseless.”
