ISLAMABAD (9 News) – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Wednesday approved an increase of Rs1.78 per unit in the power rate.

As a result, the consumers will have to bear an extra burden of Rs24 billion.

The decision will be applicable to all electricity distribution companies except K-Electric.

The Nepra announced power increase in the tariff under monthly fuel adjustment mechanism during a public hearing presided over by the NEPRA Chairman Tauseef H Farooqi.

In a petition, the Central Power Purchase Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G) had sought Rs1.92 per unit increase. CPPA-G contended that it had charged consumers a reference tariff of Rs3.5420/kWh against the actual fuel cost of Rs5.46/kWh during the said period.

The Nepra approved the hike after hearing the arguments.
