RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Wednesday disposed of off contempt of court case against PTI leader Asad Umar when he tendered an unconditional apology.
On Monday, the LHC Rawalpindi bench had issued a contempt of court notice to Asad Umar for his ‘anti-judiciary speech’ during the party’s long march. During Monday’s proceedings, Justice Jawad Hassan had remarked that “peaceful protest is everyone’s right” and that since the protest had already ended, nothing was left in this case.
In the course of today’s proceedings, Asad Umar tendered unconditional apology, saying he regrets if he had crossed any line during his speech. He said he never aimed at targeting courts or judges in his speech. On this, Justice Jawad Hassan said the court had recorded speech of Asad Umar, but didn’t want to play.
The court later disposed off the case.
