Pakistan’s Taekwondo master Haroon Khan will participate in the upcoming qualifying event fro Olympics 2020, scheduled to take place in Tokyo.
Khan will travel to China in March next year to participate in the event, the vice-president of Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) Umar Saeed informed media in Karachi.
“Khan will be participating in the qualifiers and we are hopeful that he will qualify for the mega event in Tokyo,” he said.
Saeed said that Pakistani players have performed really well in recent world events which is a good sign for them as the sport is flourishing in the country.
“It is overwhelming for us that Pakistani Taekwondo players are proving their mettle at the international level,” Saeed said.
He also congratulated the young kids for achieving worthy results in recently concluded Asian Junior Taekwondo championship in Jordan. Pakistan’s team comprised of Fatima Zahra, Afeef Ali and Saad Asif performed strongly in the event.
“The federation is happy to see young kids accomplishing good results at a higher level. We will invest in these kids to make them capable of winning medals for Pakistan in the future,” he said.
On the other hand, Saeed announced that Pakistan will be staging Grade-I Pakistan Open Taekwondo Championship from December 2020 to January 2021. The event will take place under the banner of the World and Asian Taekwondo Federation and will feature over 600 athletes from around the world.
“It is an honor for us to get the hosting rights of the mega event. The participation of foreign players will give exposure to the local talent,” he highlighted. For more latest news Pakistan, visit 9newshd.tv
