Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq was appointed since Pakistan men’s national team head coach in all 3 formats on a yearlong arrangement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement Wednesday.
In accord with this PCB’s dedication, Misbah was called the Chairman of Selectors with head coaches of their six Cricket Association sides because his selectors, ” it stated. Misbah was a unanimous selection of a five-member panel which included Intikhab Alam (former priest as well as the longest functioning Pakistan team manager and trainer ), Bazid Khan (former global cricketer and among the most respected commentators), Asad Ali Khan (member, Board of Governors), Wasim Khan (Chief Executive, PCB) and Zakir Khan (Director — International Cricket, PCB) after a strong recruitment procedure.
Some former Test cricketers such as Dean Jones, Mohsin Khan and Courtney Walsh went through the selection procedure however, the PCB panel chose in Misbah’s favour for the slot. Based on the recommendation of Misbah, the PCB also called the head trainer and ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Waqar Younis as coach of the national side on a contract.
Both the team appointments were accepted by the PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani. The first mission of Misbah-Waqar combination is going to be the forthcoming three ODI and three T20I home series against Sri Lanka, which is performed from 27 September to 9 October. The duo’s first show at the World Test Championship is going to be in Australia when Pakistan will perform Brisbane (21-25 November), followed by a day/night Test in Adelaide (29 November-3 December).
Misbah and Waqar have worked as a set from May 2014 to April 2016. The 45-year-old Misbah, who retired from international cricket in May 2017, stated: “It is very humbling for me to join a select group of some of the very best to have coached the Pakistan national sides in the past. “I understand expectations are high, but I am completely ready and up for the job otherwise I wouldn’t have thrown my name in the hat for a few of the most difficult and coveted characters in Pakistan cricket.
“We will need to comprehend that this is a performance-oriented planet and just those Pakistan players have flourished in the past who’ve obtained the pride in donning the celebrity and crest in their chests by providing every time they’ve stepped to the area.”I am excited to once again have someone as knowledgeable and experienced as Waqar Younis in my corner for a bowling coach. We’ve got exciting fast bowlers within our positions and there’s no better man than Waqar to change them.
“As I prepare to start a new stage in my profession, I wish to thank my loved ones, friends, former team-mates, the PCB along with also my team, departmental and franchise sides for encouraging me in my trip.”PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan said: “We are thrilled to have a person of Misbah-ul-Haq’s leadership, ability and prestige taking on the duty of our nationwide team. At precisely the exact same time, I wish to thank all of the local and overseas candidates who provided their solutions, but the board unanimously put their weight behind Misbah since it thought that he was an ideal match for the double assignments as a consequence of his understanding, wisdom and requirements of Pakistan cricket around all of the three formats of this match. But, while the PCB has further empowered Misbah, it has also put more responsibility on his shoulders as he will now be solely responsible and accountable for his side’s performances.
As always, PCB checks and balances will remain.”Furthermore, it integrates well with our renovated domestic arrangement where both head coaches of those first-class sides are also the selectors. They’ll offer regular feedback and upgrades to Misbah to the regional players who will help him in his training and preparation.
In any case, this can also guarantee meritocracy in staff selections and more onus on the head trainers to their evaluations.”Exciting times are ahead for the national cricket team, which will feature in the World Test Championship, Asia Cup T20 in 2020 and back-to-back ICC T20 World Cups in 2020 and 2021.
The PCB has no doubts that under Misbah’s vision and guidance, the team will perform strongly and will succeed in transforming our talented players into world-class performers.”
