A section of fans on social media went into overdrive speculating Ravi Shastri’s future as India cricket coach right after reports of Sourav Ganguly’s election as Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) emerged.

Notably, Ravi Shastri and Sourav Ganguly were involved in a public fallout during the latter’s tenure in the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) in 2016. Ganguly was absent during Shastri’s presentation for the head coach role and the latter called the former India captain’s absence ‘disrespectful’.

Shastri was eventually overlooked for the role that was bagged by Anil Kumble. However, Shastri was appointed as the head coach of Team India after India’s Champions Trophy campaign in 2017.

Sourav Ganguly, while speaking at the India Today Conclave East last week, also made his stance clear on the speculations.

“That’s why it is speculation. I don’t have an answer to it [speculations]. It’s pretty simple. It’s about performance. You perform, you continue or else somebody else would take over. It’s a simple formula,” Ganguly said.
