KARACHI (9 News) – Five people were electrocuted in different incidents as persistent rain inundated several areas of the city on Friday.
Two people were electrocuted in SITE Area and one each person died in Nazimabad and Korangi.
All the underpasses and roads were inundated after the rain, causing problems for the motorists and bikers. Long queues of vehicles could be seen on almost all roads. Rainwater entered residential areas due to the overflowing Gujjar Nullah.
Rainwater accumulated at different places around the Sindh Assembly. Several areas remained without power for several hours after feeders tripped.
The rain continued with intervals in different areas, including Sarjani Town, Malir, Gulshan Hadeed, Gulshan Iqbal and Orangi Town. The heavy downpour brought a respite from hot and humid weather.
The K-electric spokesperson said that power has been suspended in Korangi Crossing, Maripur, Defence and Gulshan. The staffers are facing difficulties in restoring the power supply in low-lying areas due to accumulated rainwater.
According to the Met Office, rain/wind thunderstorm is expected on Saturday at scattered places in Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, districts of Upper Punjab – Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Narowal, Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Lahore and Islamabad – while at isolated places in districts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Dir, Swat, Peshawar and districts of Sahiwal, Multan.
Hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
Moreover, rain and wind-thunderstorm occurred at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Hazara, Karachi, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sukkur, Makran, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan districts and Islamabad.
