Fire on US navy ship leaves 21 injured


San Diego: An explosion and fire on board a ship at a naval base in United States have injured 21 people.

According to details, twenty-one people were injured after an explosion and fire on board a ship at the US Naval Base in San Diego.

The US Navy said in a statement that seventeen Sailors and four civilians are being treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital.

The sailors were taken to a hospital where they are being given medical treatment. Meanwhile, firefighters worked for hours trying to extinguish the blaze.

It’s unclear what started the fire and explosion and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of blaze. As per initial reports, over-pressurization of the compartment started up heating the heating process resulting fire.

The ship had about a million gallons of fuel on board.
