ISLAMABAD (9 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday accepted opposition’s demand to conduct the hearing of the PTI foreign funding case on a daily basis from November 26.
According to the details garnered, the ECP has also directed the scrutiny committee to gear-up its work in this regard. The scrutiny committee will investigate the PTI foreign funding case on the daily basis from November 26.
The petition of opposition’s Rehbar Committee to conduct daily hearing of the case was accepted by the Pakistan’s supreme electoral body.
Yesterday, the joint opposition’s Rehbar Committee on Wednesday protested in front of the ECP and demanded to conduct hearing of the PTI foreign funding case on daily basis.
JUI-F leader Akram Durrani said that the illegal funding case against the ruling PTI has been ongoing for five years and this case should not be delayed anymore and the ECP should announce a quick judgment.
Durrani, accompanied by PML-N’s Ahsan Iqbal, submitted a letter to the chief election commissioner on the matter. The letter has been signed by all the members of the Rehbar Committee.
Akram Durrani said that he is hopeful that some action will be taken and its judgment will be announced soon. “Delays in such cases are bad for our country,” he added.
Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Nayyer Bukhari said that the ECP has all documental proofs against the PTI foreign funding. “There is no declaration of the 18 accounts, why the PTI fears from audit of its party foreign funding,” he added.
Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) senior leader Ahsan Iqbal said that the chief election commissioner should take this case to logical end in his tenure.
On the other hand, the PTI filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to challenge the ECP’s decision to reject its applications against an audit of the party’s foreign funding. The ruling party requested the court to restrain the scrutiny committee formed by the election commission from probing the party’s foreign funding.
