Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket team seals historic 3-1 series win

Powered by brilliant half-centuries from Gohar Afridi and Usama Tariq, the Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Team secured a commanding 9-wicket win against Afghanistan in the fourth and final T20 match, thus clinching the series 3-1.

The match, played at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi, saw Afghanistan win the toss and elect to bat first. They posted a total of 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Jaber Safi played a notable innings of 38 runs, while Zar Alam and Raheemullah contributed 23 and 14 runs respectively. Pakistan’s Muhammad Fayyaz delivered an impressive bowling performance, claiming 2 wickets. Ayub and Ahmad Yar chipped in with a wicket each.

In response, Pakistan chased down the target aggressively, reaching 156 for the loss of just one wicket in 14.4 overs.

Gohar Afridi led the charge with a blistering 64 off just 41 balls, including 14 boundaries, while Usama Tariq remained unbeaten on 60. Muhammad Fayyaz also added 24 runs. For Afghanistan, Mir Akbar was the sole wicket-taker.

Series Awards and Dedications

Muhammad Fayyaz was named Player of the Tournament for his all-round performance, while Gohar Afridi received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding innings.

During the prize distribution ceremony, Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Team captain Muhammad Zeeshan dedicated the series win to the Pakistan Armed Forces and national martyrs.

“This victory is for those brave soldiers who laid down their lives to protect our homeland. Thanks to their sacrifices, we sleep peacefully while they remain awake, guarding our borders. They face the enemy fearlessly, putting the nation before their own families and lives,” he remarked.

He added, “This triumph is also a victory for wheelchair cricket itself. We extended our full support to promote wheelchair cricket in Afghanistan, which enabled their team to tour Pakistan.”

On the occasion, Afghanistan Wheelchair Cricket Team captain Mansoor Adil expressed his delight at playing their first international series in Pakistan.

“We are extremely happy to play this series in Pakistan. Our players displayed great passion and enthusiasm, and we hope to perform even better in the upcoming Asia Cup,” he said.

He thanked the Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Council and management, saying, “We are deeply grateful for the hospitality and warm welcome we received. Pakistan’s hosting has truly impressed us.”
