A man was arrested in India’s Madhya Pradesh for unfurling Pakistan’s national flag at his home in a video that went viral on social media, said Indian police on Monday.
According to The Hindu, a video made rounds on social media showing a man’s house in Shipra village, with an unfurled Pakistani flag at the rooftop.
Following the video’s emergence, Indian police took action and arrested the resident, who was identified as Farukh Khan.
Khan was arrested on August 30 under Indian Penal Code Section 153A, which pertains to “promoting enmity between groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony”, said an official.
Meanwhile, another police official said that he was instructed to investigate the matter further and upon inquiry, it emerged that the man’s 12-year-old son had unfurled the flag “out of ignorance”.
Khan said when he came to know about the incident, he removed the flag, said police, adding that he could not tell as to where he had gotten hold of it.
