Arrested NADRA officials confess to fake CNIC scheme

Officials of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have allegedly confessed to processing Pakistani Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) for more than 100 foreign nationals.

According to sources, the required supporting documents, including birth, death and marriage certificates, as well as the CNICs of applicants' parents, were allegedly arranged by a private agent. The documents were then forwarded for processing through former NADRA employee Rao Zahid.

Sources said Assistant Director Jehangir Zeb Memon allegedly received between Rs100,000 and Rs150,000 for processing each case. The payments were reportedly delivered through accused Fayyaz Ahmed, Muammar Shah and Rao Zahid.

During interrogation, accused Fayyaz Ahmed allegedly admitted processing suspicious CNICs for individuals identified as Dawood, Parveen, Majida Bibi and Naseerullah. Investigators also recovered a mobile phone and other relevant material during a search.
