Last year, Abbasi was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) while en-route to Thokar Niaz Baig in Lahore on July 18, in a multi-billion-rupee case related to the award of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import contract.
On December 12, NAB Rawalpindi again filed a reference in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) case against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former finance minister Miftah Ismail. The reference was filed on December 3, however, the accountability court has returned the reference after raising some objections.
Additionally, the reference stated that the national exchequer will suffer a loss of Rs47bn by 2029 because of the contract.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had granted bail to Abbasi in the LNG reference on February 25, 2020.
