Motorway gang rape: Accused Waqar’s brother in law surrenders before police

Lahore: In another major development, brother-in-law of Waqar-ul-Hassan, alleged co-accused in the motorway gang-rape case, has surrendered himself before the police.

According to details, Abbas was in contact with the key suspect of motorway gang-rape case Abid Malhi.

Abbas’ name surfaced through geo fencing and he was constantly in contact with Abid, police sources revealed.

As per Abbas, the last contact he had Abid was 12 days ago.

“We were connected through work related activities. I have surrendered before police to prove my innocence and I am hopeful that justice will be served,” he said.

On September 13, police arrested father and a brother of Abid Malhi as manhunt for arresting the prime suspect are underway.

Abid’s father Akbar Ali and brother Qasim are residents of Ali Town in Manga Mandi. The arrested suspects were also being interrogated.

Abid’s criminal record has also surfaced. He was involved in a 2013 rape and robbery case in Fort Abbas while an attempt to murder case was registered against him in 2014 in Kachiwala police station. He is nominated in eight cases.

On the same day earlier, an alleged accused Waqar-ul-Hassan had also surrendered before the police and denied his involvement in the crime.

Waqar had claimed that his brother-in-law, Abbas, was using his mobile phone and was in contact with Abid Malhi.

"Abbas refused to surrender himself with me but he may do soon. He was involved in some criminal activities with Abid Ali and is still in contact with him," Waqar reportedly told police.

On September 09, a woman was travelling on the motorway along with her children when her car ran out of the fuel. She was waiting for help when two men appeared from the roadside thy broke the car window and took her to the nearby forested area.

The suspect gang raped the woman in front of her children and later took away her belongings including ATM cards, cash, jewllery and car registration card.

The victim in her statement told that she was coming from Gujranwala to Lahore to meet her relatives when her vehicle was run out of fuel.

“I parked the vehicle on the roadside when two dacoits appeared and they took me to a nearby jungle area after looting my jewellery, cash and registration certificate of the car,” he told.

She stated that both robbers raped her in front of her children.
